Other Names: alpha-F13
This tridecapeptide represents the mature α-factor, the mating pheromone in Candida albicans, the most common fungal pathogen in humans responsible for a wide variety of mucosal and systemic infection. The ability of this organism to undergo sexual mating was discovered recently. SP1 peptide is more active than the 14-amino-acid SP2. This peptide is also known as alpha-F13.
