Boc-Phe-OH is the phenylalanine derivative utilized in Boc SPPS. Boc-Phe-OH is soluble in DCM, DMF, NMP and most other common solvents. The aromatic ring of the phenylalanine side chain is hydrophobic and may be significant in receptor binding through hydrophobic interactions. Pi stacking and other interactions with the pi electrons in the aromatic ring also play a role.
