Boc-Lys(2-Cl-Z)-OH is one the commonly utilized lysine derivatives. The 2-Cl-Z group is labile with HF, TFMSA or TMSOTf and usually is removed when the peptide is cleaved from the resin. It may also be removed by hydrogenolysis. Lysine residues are basic and may play important roles in peptide function. The lysine side chain is also used to attach tags such as biotin or fluorescent dyes to a peptide. Modification of lysine side chains by acetylation, methylation or ubiquiination plays an important role bioregulation.
