The tetanus and botulinum B toxins block neurotransmitter release by cleaving the synaptic vesicle protein synaptobrevin-2. Synaptobrevin-2 (73-79) which contains this cleavage site, has been shown to inhibit the in vitro proteolysis of synatobrevin-2 by both toxins. Schiavo, G; et al., Nature, 359, 832, (1992).
