Angiotensinogen is an alpha-2-globulin produced and released into the circulatory system primarily by the liver. It is a renin substrate, producing angiotensin I. The first 12-14 amino acids appear to be most critical for activity [Bujak-Gizycka, B et al. J. Physiol. Pharmacol. 61, 679 (2010); Cumin, F et al. Biochem. Biophys. Acta 913, 10 (1987)].
