Fmoc-Bip-OH is utilized to prepare biphenylalanine containing peptides.  Some of these peptides exhibit interesting and useful activity.  A Bip-containing peptide is a cardiac tissue specific binding agent of troponin I (WR Abd-Elgaliel, C-H Tung, Mol. Biosynth., 2012, 8, 2629-32).  Another Bip-containing peptide is a selective and competitve inhibitor of the dopamine transporter (J Ding, et al., J. Med. Chem., 2006, 49, 4048-51).  Replacing a Phe residue in the host-cell receptor-antigen CD4 with Bip produced a powerful inhibitor of HIV-1 entry into cells (F Stricker, et al., Biochem. J., 2005, 390(Pt1), 29-39).
